How to Analyze Your Time Map and Focus on High-Impact Work – Day 2 of the MARFAST Method™

October 10, 20243 min read

Welcome to Day 2 of our MARFAST Method™ series! Now that you’ve started tracking your time, it’s time to figure out what’s truly making an impact—and what’s just busy work. In today’s post, we’re diving into how to analyze your time map, identify high-impact activities, and cut out the distractions holding you back.

Let’s jump into it!

Section 1: Why Analyzing Your Time Map is a Game-Changer

By now, you’ve been tracking your time for at least a day or two. Great job! 🎉 But the real magic happens when you sit down and analyze that time map. Here's why this step is so powerful:

  1. You’ll identify patterns: Some tasks push your business forward, while others hold you back.

  2. You’ll spot time-sinks: These are activities that don’t contribute to your growth but take up way more time than they should.

  3. You’ll make smarter decisions: By analyzing your time map, you can focus on what moves the needle and cut out what doesn’t.

Section 2: How to Analyze Your Time Map

Now that you understand why analyzing your time is essential, here’s how to do it step by step.

Step 1: Look for Patterns

Start by reviewing your time map for recurring activities. Where are you spending the majority of your time? Are there tasks you spend more time on than you expected?

Ask yourself:

  • Which tasks take up most of my time?

  • Are these tasks directly tied to my business growth?

  • What activities are distractions or unproductive?

Step 2: Identify High-Impact vs. Low-Impact Work

Once you spot patterns, it’s time to separate high-impact tasks from low-impact tasks. High-impact tasks are activities that directly move the needle for your business (like working on a client project, creating content, or strategic planning).

Low-impact tasks, on the other hand, are things like answering emails, admin work, or social media scrolling that don’t drive immediate results. These are the time-sinks you’ll want to delegate or minimize.

Step 3: Make Adjustments

The final step is to reallocate your time. Shift focus away from low-impact tasks and toward high-impact activities that will drive your business forward.

Real-Life Example: Our Business Breakthrough

Here’s a quick real-world example from us: We were once working with a coach who gave us tons of tasks to complete each week. But after reviewing our time map, we realized most of those tasks were just busy work. They weren’t helping us work on our business—they were just keeping us stuck in it. When we fired this particular coach and cut out the busy work, we gained back 4-6 hours each week. That time was reallocated to high-impact tasks that drove real growth.

Today’s Action Step

It’s time for you to do the same!

Here’s your action step for today:

  1. Review the time you’ve tracked so far.

  2. Highlight 2-3 tasks that have made the biggest impact on your business.

  3. Identify 2-3 tasks that didn’t drive results.

  4. Adjust your schedule by reallocating time to those high-impact tasks.

This is the key to working smarter, not harder.

What’s Next?

You’ve done incredible work analyzing your time! Now that you’ve identified what’s really moving the needle, you’re ready for Day 3, where we’ll dive into automating, delegating, and streamlining. You’ll learn how to free up more time for high-impact work, so you can focus on growing your business without burning out.

Stay tuned for tomorrow’s lesson, and start making those shifts in your time today!
